Van Cleef & Arpels Pays Homage to the Legacy of the Pierre Arpels Collection

After making a dazzling debut in 1949, the Pierre Arpels creations by Van Cleef & Arpels became an instant classic, distinguished by a sophisticated design that combines sleek lines with mesmerising play of light. The brand has now unveiled new iterations of the collection that are characterised by the finesse of the case, punctuated by central attachments, and the piqué motif adorning the dial. GMT India takes a closer look at the collection.

The new Pierre Arpels watch by Van Cleef & Arpels

A Pierre Arpels watch boasts an understated elegance that has stood the test of time. The timepiece is made to ensure a snug fit – with its compact case gently held by two central attachments – a signature of Van Cleef & Arpels watches. The “threelink” roller attachments subtly highlight the lines of the piece and are placed on either side of the dial, at 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock, holding the strap in place. The gold watches are enhanced with a mirror-polished finish to create a delicate play of light running along the bezel. And, on the diamond-set version, the pristine white dial shines against a sparkling halo. The crown is also adorned with a precious stone.

Furthermore, the dial is decorated with a piqué motif, inspired by the Maison’s hallmark, which is also found on the buckle of the strap. Adding to the details is a pair of fine hands sweeping past the Roman-numeral hour markers at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock. The watch is available in two sizes – 38 mm and 42 mm. The case offers a slightly bevelled profile that slips smoothly under clothing. The Pierre Arpels watches run on a manual-winding mechanical movement and offer a power reserve of 48 to 60 hours.

The collection also includes a complication version – the Pierre Arpels Heure d’Ici & Heure d’Ailleurs model that combines two time zones, offering an understated yet poetic interpretation of travel.

The new Pierre Arpels creations have been designed and assembled at the Van Cleef & Arpels Watchmaking Workshops in Geneva, a testament to the Maison’s savoir-faire in watchmaking.
