Triple Triumph: Louis Moinet Releases Three Remarkable Timepieces at Watches and Wonders 2025

Louis Moinet once again captivated the watchmaking world with the unveiling of three distinct timepieces at the recently concluded Watches and Wonders exhibition in Geneva. Each watch — the 1816 Chronograph, the Time to Race, and the Black Moon — showcases the brand's commitment to preserving heritage, delivering high-calibre performance, and evoking celestial wonder. Let's delve into the intricate details of these remarkable creations.

The 1816 Chronograph: A Legacy Reinvented

The 1816 Chronograph pays homage to Louis Moinet's groundbreaking "compteur de tierces" of 1816, the world's first chronograph. The contemporary interpretation is housed in a 40.6 mm diameter and 14.7 mm high case crafted from polished and satin-finished grade 5 titanium. It comprises 51 parts and is water-resistant to 30 metres. Its Directoire-style semi-bassine design features two push-pieces framing a fleur-de-lys adorned crown, while the integrated grade 5 titanium "Project BRIDGE" bracelet ensures a seamless fit.

The rhodium dial, constructed from 23 parts with engraved markings and 10 blackened nickel cabochons, displays the time via openworked hands with SLN and blued steel chronograph and totaliser hands. Powering this timepiece is the new in-house, hand-wound mechanical calibre LM1816 (30.4 mm diameter, 7.9 mm height), featuring 34 jewels, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and providing a 48-hour power reserve. This column-wheel chronograph offers hours, minutes, seconds, and 60-second, 30-minute, and 12-hour counters, distinguished by its instantaneous minute counter and swan-neck regulator.

Time to Race: Engineered for Speed

The Time to Race collection captures the thrill of motorsports within a lightweight 40.7 mm case crafted from grade 5 titanium, weighing a mere 18 grams and being water-resistant to 50 metres. The dial, featuring a woven carbon fibre base and an off-centre hour-minute display at 6 o'clock alongside a personalised "lucky number", is protected by a 15-gram domed sapphire crystal.

This single-pusher column-wheel chronograph is powered by a self-winding mechanism with a screw balance, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with 30 jewels and a 48-hour power reserve, offering hours, minutes, seconds, and 60-second and 30-minute chronograph counters. Available in the RUSH (metallic blue) and WHITE FUJI (white and red) editions, each piece is a unique creation.

Black Moon: A Celestial Revelation

The Black Moon, limited to 28 pieces, presents a novel lunar display on an aventurine dial featuring two lunar meteorites – Dhofar 457 and Gadamis 005 – on a domed and sanded disc. The 40.7 mm case combines 18 ct red gold with a grade 5 titanium inner case and caseback, ensuring 30 metres of water resistance. Time is indicated by faceted and skeletonised hands with SLN.

The self-winding mechanism with a screw balance (28,800 vibrations per hour, 29 jewels, 48-hour power reserve) powers the hours, minutes, seconds, and the central astronomical moon complication, achieving high precision with a 135-tooth wheel. The dial features rhodium-plated indexes with SLN and a red anodised aluminium index at 3 o'clock, while a sector seconds subdial at 9 o'clock adds a unique touch.
