TAG Heuer and Kith Collaborate to Create a Range of Limited-Edition Formula 1 Watches
Luxury watches are a celebration of history, workmanship, and personal storytelling. In other words, they are more than just timepieces, carrying forward the legacy of a family or an individual or a brand or even the world of sports. The latest TAG Heuer Formula 1 collection is an illustrious example of this particular aspect of luxury watches. TAG Heuer has indeed brought back the legendary '80s Formula 1, upgraded with modern build quality and co-signed by streetwear brand Kith, which was created by Ronnie Fieg, a well-known name in the footwear industry, in 2011. Kith is a versatile lifestyle brand for men, women, and children as well as a modern retail enterprise.
Watch connoisseurs are well aware of TAG Heuer’s history. Before holding company Techniques d'Avant-Garde finalised its takeover of the struggling company in 1986, the brand was simply Heuer; this '80s-era branding shift coincided with the introduction of one of the most important timepieces in TAG Heuer's oeuvre — the original Formula 1 — in 1986.
The latest release comes in the form of a series of 10 limited-edition designs. To begin with, TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith New York (Ref. WA126A.BT0005) sports a monochromatic look with a black case, a black unidirectional 60-minute bezel, hour markers, hour, minute, and second hands, and a black dial with black stripes. TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith Miami (Ref. WA126D.BT0008) gets a beige case with a beige bezel and grey markings, and a minute track, along with a pink dial.
TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith Hawaii (Ref. WA126E.BT0009) is a multi-coloured novelty with a yellow case, a green bezel, a blue dial, and white hour markers. TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith Tokyo (Ref. WA126B.BT0006), on the other hand, gets a red case, a black bezel with a white dial, eggshell printed indexes, hour, minute, and second hands. The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith Toronto (Ref. WA126C.BT0007) novelty has a black case, a black bezel, a yellow dial with a white minute track, hour markers, and black hour, minute, and second hands. TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith Paris (Ref. WA121N.BA0023) is housed in a stainless steel case and has a green bezel with red and white markings, a green minute track, an eggshell dial with black and white hour markers, and black hour, minute, and second hands. TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith Los Angeles (Ref. WA121P.BA0023) features a steel case with red and white markings, a white dial with beige eggshell printed hour markers, and black hour, minute, and second hands. All these timepieces are available exclusively at respective Kith boutiques. Each of the New York, Tokyo, Toronto, Miami, and Hawaii editions is limited to 250 pieces. Paris and Los Angeles are limited to 350 pieces each.
Next in this collection are three TAG Heuer-retailed Formula 1 Kith references. Ref. WA121F.BA0023 is limited to 1,350 pieces and has a stainless steel case with a black bezel with red and white markings, an eggshell dial with a red minute track, black and white hour markers, and black hour, minute, and second hands. Both Ref. WA121J.BT0012 and Ref. WA121L.BT0014 are housed in black cases with white markings, hour markers, and hour, minute and seconds hands. The colour of the minute track on both references matches the bezel colour. These two novelties are limited to 825 pieces each.
Each of the 10 watches has a 35mm diameter; the case material is either stainless steel or arnite depending on the reference. All models get a crown at 3 o’clock with protectors, a combination of dotted and shield hour markers, and a date window at 3 o’clock. Also, all novelties get the Kith Heuer logo at 12 o’clock. The hour hand on all models gets a Mercedes logo and the words, “Just Us Limited Edition”, can be spotted at 6 o’clock. Powering the collection is a quartz movement. Turning each watch over showcases a stainless steel screw-down caseback with “LIMITED EDITION” and “KITH HEUER” pattern engraving. The new collection also gets 200-metre water resistance.
