IWC Kickstarts the 2025 F1 Season with a New Pilot Mark XX Mercedes-AMG Petronas Team Watch
Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ is a top motorsports team that has continuously led F1 racing. Based in Brackley, United Kingdom, the squad is supported by the Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth ― they represent the peak of engineering, innovation, and performance. Dominating the sport for much of the 2010s, the team won a record number of straight Constructors' and Drivers' Championships, headed by stars such as Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
If we talk about F1, can horology be far behind? Luxury timepiece maker IWC, celebrated for its tireless pursuit of horological excellence, has joined hands with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS, known for its cutting-edge technology, to kick off the F1 watch game this year. The launch of the IWC Pilot’s Watch Mark XX Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team (Ref. IW328210) variant in Grade 5 titanium certainly ensures a fitting start to the season of racing.
Grade 5 titanium, often known as Ti-6Al-4V, is a prominent material in high-end watchmaking due to its remarkable combination of strength, light weight, and corrosion resistance. This alloy is substantially stronger than pure titanium; it is biocompatible and hypoallergenic as well. Its faint grey shine provides a modern, sophisticated aesthetic that appeals to individuals who want their timepieces to perform as well as look great. What’s more, Grade 5 titanium is also used in automotive engineering to produce car parts that are subject to immense stress, such as engine valves.
The Pilot’s Watch Mark XX Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team variant features a 40 mm matte grey case, crafted from lightweight and rigid Grade 5 titanium; it has a crown at 3 o’clock. The novelty has Arabic printed hour markers with a triangle 12 o’clock in the Team’s signature Petronas green, contrasting the black dial. The blackened hands for hours, minutes, and seconds are coated with Super-LumiNova® in the same green colour. The timepiece has a date window at 3 o’clock where the number matches the Petronas colour. Inside the case is the manufacture calibre 32111, an in-house automatic movement with a 4Hz frequency and a solid 120-hour power reserve (5 days). It also comes with a stop-seconds mechanism for precise adjustment. The caseback is engraved with small hexagons as well as “Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team”. This watch is fitted with a Petronas green rubber strap, featuring the EasX-CHANGE® strap change system. The Pilot’s Watch Mark XX Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team variants will be worn by team members on the trackside, including mechanics, engineers, and race strategists, during the 2025 season.
