A Brief History of Origin: Jacob & Co. Adds a Rose Gold Dual Time Tourbillon Variant to ‘The World is Yours’

Jacob & Co.’s horological creations are as much works of art as instruments of accurate timekeeping. The Manhattan-based brand has indeed redefined luxury watchmaking with its elaborate tourbillons, celestial-inspired complications, and sumptuous gem-set offerings. One of its standout collections is ‘The World is Yours’ series. A brand new Dual Time Zone Tourbillon variant (Ref. DT200.40.AA.AA.A) has now been added to this collection; crafted in rose gold, the reference is limited to 199 pieces.

Jacob & Co.'s ‘The World is Yours’ Dual Time Zone Tourbillon is a modern tribute to the brand's origins and the watchmaking journey of its creator, Jacob Arabo. This wristwatch, inspired by an antique dual-time pocket watch presented to Arabo by his father, underlines the brand's relentless commitment to technological innovation. Over the years, the watchmaker has elevated the design of the collection by introducing such elements as the tourbillon.

‘The World is Yours’ Dual Time Zone Tourbillon comes in a 43 mm rose gold case, with lugs and a recessed crown at 3 o’clock. In the centre of the domed dial is the fast-paced 30-second tourbillon with a transparent sapphire carriage bridge, partially shielded by a compass rose. The curved dial is crafted from titanium; etched on it with high-precision laser is a detailed relief of landmasses. After the etching process, the dial is blued with a PVD technique while another laser removes the blue parts covering the continents, which are then treated with a rose gold finish. With the Atlantic Ocean in the centre, the continents of North, Central, and South America to the west, and Africa, Asia, and the Arabian Peninsula to the east, the remaining regions of the world are printed in gold over the blue sapphire glass on the caseback.

At 12 o'clock, a subdial with Roman numerals bears an hour and a minute hand. At 6 o'clock, its counterpart uses Arabic numerals. Thanks to a three-position crown, each of these subdials can be made to show an entirely different time. Through Position 1, the watch is wound while Position 2 is for the 6 o’clock time zone correction; Position 3 deals with the 12 o’clock time zone correction. Since each subdial can be set independently to the minute, the watch can reflect time zones with unconventional offsets of 30 or 45 minutes, like India and Australia. The hands on both the subdials are rose gold-plated.

None is the main or local or home time though — it is entirely up to the wearer to decide which is which. The independence of the two time zones is especially useful for those with an unusual offset. On the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the two subdials are a flat surface, tilted at a 64-degree angle. The 8-pointer compass rose in the centre meanwhile has evolved from a small-seconds hand in the original to a double-paced 30-second tourbillon, aligned underneath. Powering the watch is Caliber Jacob & Co. JCAA45, a self-winding movement with a platinum, off-centred micro-rotor, delivering a 65-hour power reserve. Finishing the watch are a blue alligator leather strap and an 18 ct rose gold deployment buckle.
