The New HYT Hastroid Blue Star Watch Gets Bolder with a Magnesium Case

Modern watchmakers have taken the craft of creating timepieces to a whole new level. And they are leaving no stone unturned in keeping pace with the advancements in technology. Among such brands is HYT Watches, an innovative watchmaker that utilises liquids for time indication. The latest novelty to join its acclaimed Hastroid range is the Blue Star (Ref. H03060-A), a 20-piece limited-edition watch that gets a blue-coated magnesium case, among other things. HYT is a brand that likes to take risks by incorporating non-conventional materials in its timepieces.

For this piece, the watchmaker decided to take on the challenge of crafting a case out of magnesium.

The weight of a watch depends on its type. Quartz watches weigh much less, compared with its automatic counterparts. Heavy watches tend to cause some kind of discomfort on wrists; if you are unlucky, these can even lead to wrist pain. The new Hastroid watch definitely feels light on the wrist. The new HYT Hastroid Blue Star watch is very similar to its predecessor — the Rainbow variant, released this year, in terms of mechanics. The just-launched 48 mm watch has been crafted from titanium, titanium and carbon, and an original alloy of stabilised bronze and carbon. The case is made of magnesium; it gets a multi-layer surface treatment while the exterior gets a metallic blue gradient tone, with darkened lugs that become lighter as the centre of the case is approached. The watch gets a crown at 2 o’clock in blue magnesium and black titanium.

The unconventional case is doused in a subtly metallic, electric blue gradient that exudes a modern and futuristic appeal. Boasting a rather large 48mm case size, and 13.3mm thickness, the watch houses a new dial design that emphasizes legibility.

The dial features a large central hand with an electric blue coating and sharpened contours for a fixed minute hand with blue and white SLN and Super-LumiNova®. The two sub-counters feature the small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, with red and white SLN and Super-LumiNova®, and a power reserve indicator at 2 o’clock, with red SLN. The openworked black dial gets the same fluid as its predecessor for the retrograde time indication.

It beats at the rate of 28,800 hourly vibrations, and has a 30 meters of water resistance.

The luminescence blue coating for the hour markers ensures clear readability. There is a capillary dial topped with white Super-LumiNova® positioned under the fluidic light; the Arabic hour markers around the chapter ring are made from blocks of Super-LumiNova®, and they come with a honeycomb texture. The whole movement is protected by a central titanium container. The new watch works in the same way as the Hastroid Rainbow edition. The liquid is pushed along the barrier between the two tracks and once it reaches 6 pm, it is pushed back to the starting point to begin the 12-hour journey once more. The large central hand is used to indicate the minutes. The watch relies on a mechanical-fluidic module and has two bellows pumping the liquid through the capillary.

The unconventional case is doused in a subtly metallic, electric blue gradient that exudes a modern and futuristic appeal.

Powering the HYT Hastroid Blue Star watch is the manual winding, automatic Calibre 501-CM with 72 hours of power reserve, provided with a black coating, complemented by sandblasted and satin finishing. Finishing the watch is a black rubber strap, with a black microfibre embossed decoration and blue stitching. There is also an option of a white rubber strap with a blue leather embossed decoration and white stitching. Both straps get pin buckles and black titanium-coated clasps.
