Slam Dunk: Tissot Tips off 2025 with the New Supersport NBA Special Edition Watch

Basketball is inextricably linked to pop culture, influencing music, fashion, and entertainment worldwide. The sport's impact extends far beyond the court, with renowned players such as Michael Jordan and LeBron James becoming global celebrities in their own right. Hip-hop artistes sing paeans to the game; even the sneaker culture thrives on basketball-inspired designs, with brands collaborating with top athletes. It’s no surprise then that the National Basketball Association (NBA) has evolved into a cultural behemoth, combining athletics with celebrity influence, social activism, and digital media to make the sport a defining feature of modern pop culture. Underlining the cultural and horological significance of basketball in general and the NBA in particular, Tissot has just revealed the new Tissot Supersport NBA Special Edition (Ref. T125.617.37.067.00)―the 2025 Official Watch of the NBA.

The watchmaker has been the NBA's official timekeeper since 2015. This relationship was a watershed moment for both the Swiss timepiece maker and the league, as the brand introduced a cutting-edge timing system that is now utilised at all 29 NBA arenas. The precision technology, created expressly for the NBA, has transformed game timing by synchronising the shot clock with the game clock, ensuring accuracy down to a fraction of a second. Of course, Tissot's involvement in the game goes beyond just timekeeping; the firm has created a line of NBA-themed watches, and worked with teams and players to increase fan engagement. This long-term relationship reinforces Tissot's devotion to precision and innovation in the field of sports timing.

The Tissot Supersport NBA Special Edition showcases a bold, multifaceted look; it features a 45.5 mm stainless steel case, lugs, crown, and two chronograph pushers at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock with black PVD coating. There is a black bezel with a 60-minute counter, incorporating the 24 seconds rule, drawing inspiration from the NBA’s shot clock with colour accents hinting at the league. The anthracite gradient dial steals the show with a basketball dot pattern. The outer periphery of the dial has the end-of-life indicator.

The Arabic hour markers for 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock, and 9 o’clock are designed like a player's jersey number; the rest of the hour markers in black and grey tones are rectangular in shape. A 30-minute subdial at 10 o’clock with a red hand, a 12-hour subdial with a blue hand, and a 60-second subdial at 6 o’clock with a date window, along with two-tone (black and grey) hour, minute hands, complete the look. The central chronograph second hand spotlights the NBA logo.

This watch is run by a quartz chronograph movement. The chronograph's subdials allow wearers to start, stop, and reset the timer for each interval. Meanwhile, the closed caseback has the engraving of the NBA logo, surrounded by the cities and states the teams draw their names from, both the Western and Eastern Conferences, arranged by their latitude.

The black bi-material bracelet, made of rubber, synthetic materials, and leather, complements the dial's texture. The textured strap is finished with red and blue threads. The watch will be available for purchase exclusively at Tissot boutiques in France and the US, and online at the watchmaker’s official website. The watches will be rolled out across the world in March.
