Richard Mille Debuts its Sports Watch Collection for Women
In order to expand their clientele, modern timepiece makers seem ready to step out of their comfort zones. Some have even started reducing the sizes of their signature collections. Take Richard Mille, known for its bold, chunky collections. The luxury watch brand has just unveiled six new iterations as part of its RM 07-04 line-up — these watches are smaller in size and super light. In fact, RM 07-04 is the first sports watch collection meant for women.
The timepiece maker has roped in six women sports ambassadors for this collection. Each of the new watches, including the strap, weighs just 36 gm. Five of the 30.5 mm watches have been made from Quartz TPT® and the sixth one is made from Carbon TPT® . Quartz TPT® and Carbon TPT® are produced through the same process, but the Quartz version uses silica.
Each watch sports a skeleton dial with just hours, minutes and a function selector indicator present above it. If we talk about the silhouette, the watches, following RM 07-01, come in green, blue, creamy white, mauve, salmon pink and Carbon cases, each with its own accent colours ranging from burgundy to red to forest green.
Manufacturing the components of the movement in Grade 5 titanium with black PVD and electroplasma treatments lends great rigidity to the entire assembly, along with precise surface flatness, essential for perfect functioning of the gear train.
Richard Mille has often collaborated with some of the leading names in sports. For these novelties, the timepiece maker has collaborated with professional race car driver Aurora Straus, race car driver Margot Laffite, professional golfer Nelly Korda, athlete Nafi Thiam, high jumper Yuliya Levchenko and snowboarder and Alpine skier Ester Ledecká.
The watches are powered by a new in-house movement, automatic Calibre CRMA8, with 50 hours of power reserve, making them ideal for athletes. Turning the watches over showcases the sapphire skeleton casebacks with platinum rotors, along with the OneWay® winding systems and ceramic ball bearings. The upper flanges are made of micro-blasted Grade 5 titanium.
The complete case construction is water-resistant to 50 metres, thanks to two Nitrile O-rings.
