Rado Equips the Latest DiaStar Original Skeleton Variant with a Yellow Gold-Coloured Case
A skeleton or an openworked dial refers to a type of watch design wherein the dial (the face of the watch) reveals the inner workings of the movement. This design allows you to see the gears, the springs, and other components of a watch, creating a visually interesting and intricate look. Some skeleton dials may have small windows on them, revealing only a portion of the movement, while others may be fully skeletonised dials, exposing the entire mechanism. The latest Rado DiaStar Original Skeleton model is a stellar example of this kind of watch design. The new watch combines the case from Rado’s 1972 DiaStar 13 model with a yellow gold colour (Ref. R12164153) and an openworked dial.
Many yellow gold-coloured watches are made from stainless steel or another base metal and then coated with a layer of yellow gold through a process called gold plating. Some watches are made from alloys that mimic the colour of gold without using the actual element. These watches are typically more affordable than those wholly crafted from gold. The new model is almost similar to its stainless steel model that was launched earlier this year. This yellow gold-coloured DiaStar has a diameter of 38 mm and a Ceramos™ bezel, coated with PVD. The middle case, the caseback, the bracelet, and the crown at 3 o’clock are made of stainless steel, with a gold-coloured PVD coating. A distinctive design feature of the DiaStar is the faceted sapphire crystal that rises over the dial.
The openwork black annular dial is the same as that of the stainless steel model in terms of design. The train bridge in this model is grey and horizontally brushed to match the other bridges over the movement. The yellow gold-coloured hour markers, suspended over the movement, are coated with white Super-LumiNova®, while the minute track on the outer periphery of the dial is printed in white. The three central hands are also yellow gold-coloured and treated with Super-LumiNova, except for the central second hand. The signature gold pivoting Rado anchor is now placed at 9 o’clock against a red background.
The skeletonised anthracite-coated automatic movement, powering the DiaStar, is positioned beneath the openworked dark grey train bridge, revealing many movement components. Powering the watch is the Calibre R808 skeleton movement with a power reserve of 80 hours, regulated in five positions. It is fitted with a NivachronTM hairspring that protects the movement from magnetic fields and temperature fluctuations. Turning the watch over showcases the openworked caseback with a stainless steel oscillating weight. This DiaStar Original Skeleton watch is presented on a comfortable polished and brushed bracelet with a triple fold clasp and Rado’s EasyClip system.
