Montblanc Launches its Luxe Star Legacy Collection with Impressive Guilloché Dials
In 1906, German engineer August Eberstein from Berlin collaborated with Hamburg banker Alfred Nehemias to develop a range of fountain pens. Thus, the brand, Montblanc, was born. Needless to say, over the decades, the revered brand has grown rapidly, making a significant impact on the world of watchmaking as well. Carrying forward its remarkable watchmaking heritage, Montblanc has just unveiled its new Star Legacy collection. It comprises the Automatic Date 43 mm Limited Edition (Ref. 130956) and the Chronograph Day & Date 43 mm Limited Edition (Ref. 130973) with exploding star guilloché dials. Each edition is limited to 800 pieces.
But, first, let us talk about guilloché dials. This technique can be traced back to the 16th century, but it became more popular in the 18th century. Today, this technique is achieved through a repetition of patterns. A specialised machine called rose engine or geometric lathe is deployed to attain a guilloché effect.
Star Legacy Automatic Date 43 mm
This 43 mm stainless steel watch comes with a polished bezel and stainless steel double-step lugs. The blue guilloché dial gets a blue flange, white rose gold-coated Roman hour markers, white luminescent rose gold-coated sword-shaped hour and minute hands, and rose gold-coated seconds hand. The outer periphery of the dial consists of a white minute track while there is a date window at 3 o’clock. A unique feature to be noted: 4 o’clock is displayed with ‘four bars’ instead of the conventional ‘IV’. There is a large crown at 3 o’clock in stainless steel, with the Montblanc emblem.
Powering the watch is Calibre MB 24.17, an in-house, self winding movement, with 38 hours of power reserve. The watch is finished on a blue interchangeable sfumato calf leather strap with alligator print, sporting a stainless steel triple-folding clasp.
Chronograph Day & Date 43 mm
This Montblanc Star Legacy collection watch is very similar to the Automatic Date model, except that it is a chronograph. The basic layout is more or less the same; the display includes a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, a double day and date in a window at 3 o’clock, a 30-minute subdial at 12 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter subdial at 6 o’clock.
The large crown and the rectangular chronograph pushers at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock are also crafted from stainless steel. Powering the watch is Calibre MB 25.07, an in-house, self winding movement, delivering 48 hours of power reserve. This watch is also completed on a blue interchangeable sfumato calf leather strap with alligator print, featuring a stainless steel triple-folding clasp.Turning each model over showcases the exhibition stainless steel caseback with a stainless steel oscillating weight and the engraving of the individual watch number out of 800.
