Louis Erard Launches Petite Seconde in Three New Colours

Based in Le Noirmont, Switzerland, Louis Erard is known for its classic timepieces. Excellence Petite Seconde, an elegant dress watch, is one of the brand’s flagship models.

The combination of coloured dials and gleaming steel works well, proffering a note of ebullience while remaining tasteful.

Last year, the timepiece maker introduced its 39 mm and 42 mm stainless steel iterations with sector dials. The time-only collection has been available in an array of colours and materials. This year, Louis Erard has introduced three new colours for its Petite Seconde collection.

All models feature ‘functional catch spring bars enabling the strap to be changed quickly’.

While the original Excellence Petite Seconde came in a 42 mm case, the new collection is now being offered with a smaller 39 mm stainless steel option. The collection comes with a downward curve of the lugs, so it will be comfortable on our wrists. The new colours being offered include Matt Ice Blue (Ref. 34248AA08.BVA141), Matt Midnight Blue (Ref. 34248AA05.BVA134) and Matt Purple (Ref. 34248AA06.BVA142). There are dial-matching calf leather straps with functional catch spring bars so that they can be changed easily.

Louis Erard differentiates its models with bewitching dial designs, packed with flavour and, in this instance, vibrant shades.

The dial of each watch now gets a chapter ring instead of a standard bezel. It is now circular and brushed with a small seconds counter at 6 o’clock with diamond-cut snailing. Also, matte finishing has been provided to the minute track on the outer periphery as well as to the centre of the dial.

The Petite Seconde has become the flagship of exquisite watchmaking in Louis Erard’s style, making it the exact reverse of what the watch’s name sounds like.

The hour markers are in a combination of Arabic and slim tapering: Midnight Blue and Purple dial watches get shiny silver that also matches the fir tree-shaped hour, minute and the seconds hand. It is the Ice Blue model that gets a monochromatic tone for the indices, hour, minute hands and seconds hand.

The collection is complemented with a new Excellence case that has been visually updated and polished while still being finished off with its trademark components

Powering the watches is the Sellita SW261-1 automatic movement with a 38-hour power reserve. To wind this movement, the collection has an enlarged crown at 3 o’clock. Turning the watch over reveals the elaboré grade finished movement visible on a sapphire openworked caseback with a stainless steel oscillating weight.

Louis Erard shows us that luxury is not only reserved for the rich, with its affordable price point, proving that luxury should also be accessible.

The 39 mm Louis Erard Petite Seconde models will be produced in a series of 100 to 150 pieces a year. They will have a water resistance of 50 metres, which doesn’t make these dress watches ideal for swimming.
