Heritage Meets Modernity: Oris Divers Sixty-Five Turns 60

Oris Divers Sixty-Five was introduced in 1965, hence the name. It was one of Oris's first dedicated diving watches, created during the heyday of mechanical dive watches. The Oris Divers Sixty-Five 60th Anniversary Edition (Ref 01 733 7772 4034-Set), therefore, honours one of the most legendary dive watches in the history of horology. This unique edition, released to mark the original 1965 model's 60th anniversary, combines vintage beauty with modern innovation. With its retro-inspired design, premium materials, and cutting-edge mechanisms, the watch honours its past while addressing the needs of modern divers and watch enthusiasts.

Let's look at the original 1965 timepiece first. It had a 36 mm stainless steel case, a domed acrylic crystal, a bi-directional rotating bezel, a screw-down crown, and a black dial with characterful, high-contrast detailing, including large, luminescent hour markers at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock. In 2024, Oris announced the release of Divers Date, a versatile everyday sports watch. With its evolved design, the watch offered a number of performance upgrades, including a weightier, more robust 39 mm stainless steel case, a scratch-and-fade-resistant ceramic bezel insert, a quick-strap change system, and 20 bar (200 metres) of water resistance so that it could be used for recreational diving, the sport that inspired the 1965 original. There were three dial colour variants inspired by a 1960s industrial palette. Each dial featured a bespoke typeface developed exclusively for the Divers Date collection. And inside, it had an upgraded automatic mechanical movement with 41 hours of power reserve.

Six decades on, Oris dives into 2025 with a watch housed in a 40 mm stainless steel case and featuring a bi-directional rotating bezel with a beige, dotted, 60-minute marker. The timepiece has a black dial; shorter beige hour markers; singular, large luminescent numerals at 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock, 9 o’clock, and 12 o’clock, lifted directly from the 1965 original; and, most significantly, the retro Oris logo with the word “waterproof” underneath it, revived for the first time in the brand’s contemporary history. The timepiece has no date at 6 o’clock. The print above 6 o’clock now reflects the 1965 model as well, albeit with a higher jewel count. The hour, minute, and lollipop seconds hands have LumiNova® inserts.

Powering the 60th Anniversary Edition is Oris 733; it has 26 jewels, beats at 28,800vph (4Hz), and comes with a 38-hour power reserve. Turning each watch over showcases the special engravings denoting the 60th anniversary of the design. New year, new joy! The watch is finished on a multi-piece stainless steel metal bracelet with a folding clasp; it is accompanied by an additional leather strap with a stainless steel buckle.
