GMT India Exclusive: Panerai Luminor GMT Power Reserve Ceramica Makes its Global Debut at Miami Design Week 2024
Panerai has long been a trailblazer in the world of haute horlogerie, introducing groundbreaking innovations, crafted in cutting-edge materials that redefine durability and performance in premium watches. With the launch of the Luminor GMT Power Reserve Ceramica (Ref. PAM01674) variant at the ongoing Miami Design Week 2024, the watchmaker continues to break new ground and defy conventions.
Underlining the brand’s ‘less is more’ design philosophy, the 44 mm watch has a black sandblasted ceramic case, a bezel, and a crown with the signature protector at 3 o’clock. PAM01674 has a matte black sandwich dial with Arabic markers for 12 o’clock, 6 o’clock, and 9 o’clock. The hour, minute hands are treated with grey Super-LumiNova® X1; the GMT hand, which glows in a Super-LumiNova® X1 vivid blue hue, displays a second-time zone. The watch face also features a small seconds dial at 9 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 5 o’clock, and a date window at 3 o’clock. In fact, the power reserve indicator is a distinctive feature, with ‘ORE’ (Italian for ‘hours’) elegantly inscribed on the dial, a veritable nod to Panerai’s Italian flair.
Powering the watch is the automatic P.9012 Calibre with an Incabloc® anti-shock device and two barrels offering a 72-hour or three days of power reserve. Furthermore, this model is wound by an oscillating weight that operates in both directions. Turning the watch reveals the screwed closed titanium DLC caseback. The watch is finished on a black sandblasted ceramic bracelet with a clean and linear design, drawing inspiration from Panerai’s bracelets of the early 2000s.
With regard to innovative materials used by the brand, Panerai ceramic is unique in several ways. Made from high-tech Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2) powder, the material goes through a rigorous process of injection moulding, diamond wheel shaping, and finally sandblasting; it is five times harder than steel, and offers strong resistance to high temperatures, scratches, and corrosion. Needless to say, any timepiece made with Panerai ceramic will be strong and durable — the newly launched Panerai Luminor GMT Power Reserve ceramic reference is no exception.
This year’s Miami Design Week, an integral part of Design Miami, was of course an apt platform for launching the stunning Luminor variant. The 20th edition of Design Miami will continue at the Miami Beach Convention Center till December 8. If we look back in history, Craig Robins, an American entrepreneur, real estate developer, and collector of art, launched DESIGN MIAMI in 2005. As the CEO and President of Dacra, Robins created creative communities that combined art, design, and architecture. Needless to say, Robins’s legacy continues, scaling greater heights each year.
