Celebrating the Year of the Snake, Oris Introduces an Exclusive ProPilot Timepiece
Long power reserves have always been associated with innovation and practicality in watchmaking. They demonstrate a brand's ability to combine technological knowledge with user ease, thereby allowing a watch to last longer between windings. This characteristic is especially prized in mechanical timepieces, where a long power reserve can significantly improve the wearer's experience by minimising the need for manual winding ― boasting an impressive 10-day power reserve, the latest Oris release is proof. Celebrating the year 2025 as the Year of the Snake, Oris has just put forth ProPilot X Year of the Snake Limited Edition (Ref. 01 115 7759 7117-Set). The 88-piece edition is based on ProPilot X Calibre 115.
In the Chinese zodiac, the snake symbolises wisdom, wealth, agility, and intelligence. The zodiac also relies upon five elements, namely wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. 2025 is marked by wood, which is associated with growth and new beginnings, and represented by the colour cyan, which is why the dial of the new Oris watch sports the majestic shade.
The ProPilot X Year of the Snake variant features a 44 mm multi-piece brushed titanium case, water-resistant to 100 metres and topped with a double-domed sapphire crystal. The timepiece gets a fluted bezel while the big screw-in crown is flanked by protective guards at 3 o’clock. The skeletonised dial of the ProPilot X Year of the Snake variant gets a chapter ring on the outer periphery, and Super-LumiNova®-coated hands and hour markers.
At 7:30 lies the small seconds indicator; a non-linear power reserve indicator at 3 o'clock gets a golden hand that is cleverly shaped like a snake’s tongue. In keeping with the theme, the sinewy, snake-like structure of this special watch’s skeletonised dial is finished in cyan.
This new ProPilot X uses the brand’s Calibre 115 movement that has been developed in-house. The hand-wound engine offers an impressive 10-day or 240-hour power reserve. Turning the watch showcases the titanium, screwed caseback with the engraving of ‘Year of the Snake’, ‘Limited Edition’, ‘Titanium’, and individual watch number out of 88. At 6 o’clock, one can find a single barrel, where the stored energy is used. Finishing the watch is a multi-piece titanium bracelet with a folding ‘Lift’ clasp.
