Bvlgari Reveals its Latest Octo Roma Collection at Watches and Wonders 2023
Bvlgari is a name that is synonymous not only with high-end jewellery, but also with luxury timepieces. The brand didn’t disappoint its fans at Watches and Wonders 2023, which is being held in Geneva, Switzerland — they were treated to spectacular Octo Roma models, unveiled at the premier watchmaking event. GMT India shares with you the intricate details of the new timepieces.
Octo Roma Automatic
The 41 mm watch gets three hands and a date window at 3 o’clock. The dial now comes in three colours: Anthracite (Ref. 103740), blue (Ref. 103739) and white (Ref. 103738). All three watches get the Clous de Paris motif on the dials. The hour markers and the Arabic numerals at 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock have Super-LumiNova ® coating. The Octo Roma Automatic watch comes with a polished and satin-brushed stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp. An additional rubber bracelet with a pin buckle is also included.
The 41 mm automatic mechanical version is powered by in-house Caliber BVL 191, offering a power reserve of 42 hours. Turning the watch over showcases the skeleton caseback with an oscillating weight.
Octo Roma Chronograph
This 42 mm chronograph comes in two colours: Blue (Ref.103829) and Black (Ref. 103471). It features a chronograph function with a central seconds hand, a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, a 60-second counter at 3 o’clock and a date window at 4:30. These two watches also get the Clous de Paris motif on the dials. Caliber BVL 399 is a Swiss in-house mechanical movement with automatic winding. It offers a 42-hour power reserve. Turning the watch over reveals the sapphire caseback with an oscillating weight.
The two pushers on the chronograph version have been carefully integrated into the case. The collection is finished on a polished and satin-brushed stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp. An additional rubber bracelet with a pin buckle is also included.
Octo Roma Tourbillon
Bvlgari announced four new tourbillon models this year — Octo Roma Striking Papillon Tourbillon (Ref. 103748), Octo Roma Striking Tourbillon Sapphire (Ref. 103914), Octo Roma Precious Naturalia (Ref. 103675) and Octo Roma Precious Tourbillon Lumiere (Ref. 103751).
The 44 mm, satin-brushed, rose gold Octo Roma Precious Naturalia features a plate visible on the dial, adorned with a tiger’s eye and a chatoyant hard stone, sporting brown and gold accents. The miniature movement with the flying tourbillon is placed at 6 o’clock. The watch comes with a brown alligator strap with a rose gold folding buckle. Turning this model over reveals the skeleton caseback with four visible screws. This watch also features a manual winding Caliber BVL 206 movement with 64 hours of power reserve.
The Octo Roma Precious Tourbillon Lumiere has a 38 mm rose gold case with 267 round diamonds; the bezel is set with 48 round-cut diamonds while the rose gold crown is set with cabochon-cut ruby. The watch gets a manual winding skeletonised Caliber BVL 208 with a tourbillon at 6 o’clock and a power reserve of 64 hours. Rose gold can also be found on the movement and the skeleton dial, set with diamonds and nine brilliant-cut rubies, indicating the hours. The watch is finished on a red alligator strap with a diamond-set folding buckle.
The Octo Roma Striking Papillon Tourbillon is a 44 mm black DLC watch with a sapphire case in the middle and a black DLC titanium crown, sporting a black ceramic insert. The watch offers a unique way of reading time — the hour can be read through a fixed window at 12 o’clock while the minutes are displayed on a semicircle, graduated from 0 to 60 and alternately traversed by two diamond-shaped hands.
This watch is powered by manual winding Caliber BVL 332 with a central flying tourbillon, a ‘butterfly’ minute display and a jumping hour mechanism with 60 hours of power reserve. Turning the watch over reveals the 60-hour power reserve indicator on the caseback. The watch is finished on a rubberised black alligator strap with green stitching and a titanium folding buckle.
The last model in this collection is the Octo Roma Striking Tourbillon Sapphire. It is a 44 mm titanium watch, with a sapphire case in the middle. The watch gets a black DLC titanium crown with a black ceramic insert while the dial features green Super-LumiNova® indexes. The watch has two hands for hours, minutes and a tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The watch has a push button at 3 o’ clock, which when pressed reveals a discreet red dot on the axis of the winding stem, indicating that the watch can now be adjusted by turning the crown in the traditional way; as the crown cannot be pulled, pressing it for a second time deactivates the time setting.
Powering the watch is the manual winding manufacture Caliber BVL 206 with a flying tourbillon. It offers 64 hours of power reserve. Turning the watch over not only showcases the skeleton caseback, but also the power reserve indicator. The watch comes with a rubberised black alligator strap, sporting green stitching and a titanium folding buckle.
