A Touch of Warmth: Introducing the Full Pink Gold Version of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Reverso Tribute Chronograph
Pink gold is valued in the world of watches for its gentle warmth and soothing elegance. It is also considered a softer and more modern alternative to traditional yellow gold. Underlining the material’s popularity in contemporary watchmaking, Jaeger-LeCoultre (JLC) has come up with a unique interpretation of Reverso Tribute Chronograph, fully in pink gold. Following the launch of the Reverso Tribute Chronograph in 2023 in a steel or an 18 ct pink gold case, JLC has now reimagined the quintessential sporting complication fully in pink gold (Ref. Q389256J). This new Reverso Tribute Chronograph is limited to only 250 pieces. The new dial decoration amplifies the rectilinear Art Deco geometry of the Reverso case.
Polo is thought to have originated in Manipur, a state in northeast India, as early as the sixth century BCE, when it was called Sagol Kangjei. It was played on horseback, just as it is today, but with various equipment and rule modifications. The British discovered the game in India in the nineteenth century and were charmed by it, resulting in the establishment of the first organised polo club in Silchar, Assam, in 1833. Born in 1931 with a protective swivelling case designed to be worn on the polo fields, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Reverso was quickly adopted by tastemakers from all walks of life; they were simply smitten by its elegant and sporty Art Deco aesthetics.
The Reverso Tribute Chronograph pays homage to the 1996 Reverso Chronograph, which created a new architecture for the integrated chronograph calibre. The 49.4 mm watch’s front/primary dial is time-only, with no second hand. Here, the dial has a pink gold surface that has been laser-engraved with horizontal lines spanning the width of the dial; this rectilinear geometry of the Reverso case amplifies the three horizontal gadroons above and below the dial. Set against this background are the signature Reverso Tribute design details: applied trapezoid hour markers, dauphine hands, and a chemin de fer minutes track. On the new dial, the minute track is highlighted in black. Pink gold can also be found on the crown at 3 o’clock, and on two chronograph pushers at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock.
On the reverse side, the openworked dial gets pink gold bridges featuring hand-bevelled edges and a vertical Côtes de Genève decoration. This is also a time-only dial with a blue chronograph central second hand and a retrograde 30-minute counter on an arc at the base of the dial. The counters, chronograph seconds, and minute tracks are highlighted in black, sporting blued screws. The polished 18 ct pink gold, trapezoid hour markers are invisibly attached to the minute track and appear to float above the movement. The dial has a 60-minute marking with dauphine hands.
The Reverso Tribute Chronograph is powered by Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 860, which is a fully integrated hand-wound chronograph movement. This movement incorporates a column wheel chronograph with a horizontal clutch and offers 52 hours of power reserve. Finishing the watch are two straps offered with each watch. The first one is a tan calf leather strap, designed by the Buenos Aires atelier of the celebrated Argentinian polo bootmaker Casa Fagliano to celebrate the timepiece’s polo roots; the second one is a black alligator strap with a pink gold pin buckle. Both straps feature a Presto quick-release system and an interchangeable buckle for easy changes.
