A. Lange & Söhne: Minute Repeater Perpetual, 1815, and Odysseus Honeygold Steal the Show at Watches and Wonders 2025

At Watches and Wonders 2025, A. Lange & Söhne has put forth brand new iterations of its Minute Repeater, 1815 and Odysseus lines. GMT India spotlights the Maison’s latest engineering marvels.

Watch #1: Minute Repeater Perpetual

A newly developed, manually wound movement breathes life into this rare combination of a minute repeater and a perpetual calendar. In other words, the artisanally finished model, limited to 50 pieces, combines two grand complications.

Actuating the slide on the left case flank activates the minute repeater, which chimes the hours (low pitch), quarter hours (double tone), and elapsed minutes (high pitch). Two gongs produce 720 unique sequences: one for every minute in a 12-hour cycle. The sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement of the gongs and hammers, controlled by a 194-part mechanism of racks, snails, levers, and wheels.

Perpetual Calendar with Lange Outsize Date

The perpetual calendar ensures precise tracking of the date, day and month, automatically accounting for leap years. A correction is needed only on March 1, 2100, when the leap year is skipped per the Gregorian calendar. The moon-phase display is accurate to the synodic lunar cycle, requiring adjustment by just one day every 122.6 years. All calendar indications can be advanced simultaneously using a single corrector.

Eye-catching Enamel Dial

The four-part white gold dial, filled with black enamel, is crafted in-house through a meticulous process. Its glossy black surface enhances legibility, highlighting the Lange outsize date and complications.

The subsidiary dials’ display includes:

9 o’clock – Day-of-the-week and 24-hour indicators

3 o’clock – Month and leap-year indications

6 o’clock – Small seconds and moon-phase display, featuring two 750 gold moons surrounded by over 100 hand-engraved stars

New Manufacture Calibre

This timepiece features the Lange manufacture calibre L122.2, which is a manually wound movement with 640 components. It features a screw balance and an in-house freely oscillating balance spring, ensuring precision. The mainspring barrel provides a 72-hour power reserve. The three-quarter plate, made of untreated German silver, is decorated with black-rhodiumed engravings and holds four screwed gold chatons.

The minute repeater and perpetual calendar mechanisms are mostly hidden beneath the dial, but the two manually bent gongs and gong hammers are visible. The hammers are finished with black polish, a technique ensuring that light reflects in a single direction. The centrifugal governor, mounted in an overhung position, runs at 2,000+ RPM for a uniform strike cadence while remaining nearly silent.

The case, crafted in 950 platinum, measures 40.5 mm in diameter and 12.1 mm in height. It is paired with a black, hand-stitched alligator leather strap with a deployant platinum buckle. The limited edition of 50 pieces is available exclusively at select A. Lange & Söhne boutiques.

Watch #2: The new 1815

Ferdinand Adolph Lange, who founded the brand, envisioned pocket watches that perfectly balanced precision, functionality, and elegance. Available in 750 pink or white gold with refined, understated proportions, the new 1815 reference ― the series is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year ― stays true to this legacy. With a 34 mm diameter and a slim 6.4 mm profile, this classic three-hand timepiece offers a discreet yet timeless presence on the wrist.

The slim, tiered bezel frames the dial, which features a railway-track minute scale, Arabic numerals, and a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, echoing early Lange pocket watches. Lancet-shaped hands move over a blue background, complementing the case. The white gold model pairs with a blue leather strap, while the pink gold version comes with a reddish brown strap.

The 75th Manufacture Calibre

The aesthetics of the newly developed manufacture calibre L152.1 can be seen through the sapphire crystal caseback. The prominent movement part is decorated with Glashütte ribbing and offers a power reserve of 72 hours. The four screwed gold chatons, the bearing jewels, and the securing thermally blued screws provide colourful accents.

Watch #3: Odysseus Honeygold

At Watches and Wonders 2025, A. Lange & Söhne has also unveiled the Odysseus in a striking 750 honeygold case, paired with a rich brown dial and a matching honeygold bracelet. Limited to just 100 pieces, this sporty-elegant timepiece is built for both precision and performance. Under the hood, a robust self-winding movement powers the watch, while its case is engineered to withstand pressures up to 12 bar, making it just as reliable for adventure as for everyday wear.

The slim case gives the watch an effortless lightness, while its mix of rounded and angular elements creates striking contrast. Tapered pushers, set above and below the screw-down crown, make adjusting the date and day seamless. A narrow bezel maximises the dial’s presence, while brushed surfaces and chamfered edges flow through the lugs and bracelet links. The five-row bracelet offers a custom fit, easily adjustable by adding or removing individual links.

Robust mechanics

This timepiece features the automatic DATOMATIC (L155.1) calibre, integrating a date mechanism for added functionality. Its movement is crafted with plates and bridges made of untreated German silver, complemented by blued screws and a screwed gold chaton above the escape wheel, showcasing Lange's signature craftsmanship. Offering a robust 50-hour power reserve when fully wound, the movement operates at a high frequency of 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour (4 Hz), ensuring exceptional accuracy and reliability.

Statement Colours

Housed in a case that measures 40.5 mm in diameter and 11.1 mm in height, the watch has a brown dial. The elegant hue matches the warm lustre of the Manufacture’s exclusive alloy, characterised by its typical colour and particular hardness. The hands and notched baton appliques are also made of honeygold.

With a height of 2.4 millimetres, the white numerals of the outsize date and the letters of the day-of-the-week display stand out against the brown background. The red number 60 at 12 o’clock provides a colourful accent on the peripheral minute scale that is printed on the bevelled, gold-coloured flange ring.
