MB&F Celebrates its 20th Anniversary with Exclusive Limited Editions: The Longhorn Timepieces
In 2025, MB&F marks a milestone — 20 years since Maximilian Büsser launched the innovative Swiss watch brand that blends art and horology. To kick off the celebrations, MB&F has introduced two exclusive limited-edition timepieces — LM Perpetual Longhorn and LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn, both limited to only 20 pieces each.
A Dream Realised: 20 Years of MB&F
Maximilian Büsser reflects on the journey, “It’s like a dream come true, only I never dreamt it.” What started in 2005 with the creation of Horological Machine No.1 has grown into an influential brand with over 60 employees and more than 20 calibres. As MB&F enters its 20th year, this celebration will be packed with new timepieces, collaborations, and creative surprises that define MB&F's unique artistry.
The Longhorn Adventure: A Concept Revisited
The "Longhorn" design was originally conceived in 2009 during the creation of LM1, MB&F's first Legacy Machine. The idea of longer lugs or “horns” for a more visually striking design was scrapped due to the challenge of achieving a perfect fit. However, the concept was revisited in 2021 for the LM1's 10th anniversary. A prototype featuring longer lugs and a unique black-and-silver colour scheme was created, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
Two Anniversary Limited Editions
The two anniversary editions draw on the LM1 prototype’s unique features — stainless steel cases, long horns, glossy black lacquer subdials, rhodium-plated base plates, and blued hands — taking MB&F's design language to a new chapter of creativity.
Legacy Machine Perpetual Longhorn
The Legacy Machine Perpetual Longhorn variant is powered by a fully integrated perpetual calendar movement developed for MB&F by renowned watchmaker Stephen McDonnell. This movement features a dial-side complication and a mechanical processor system with an inbuilt safety mechanism. It is manually wound with double mainspring barrels, offering a power reserve of 72 hours. The movement also showcases a bespoke 14 mm balance wheel, with traditional regulating screws visible on top of the movement.
The 581-component movement is hand-finished to the highest standard, respecting 19th-century horological techniques, with internal bevel angles, polished bevels, Geneva waves, and hand-made engravings. The subdials are finished in glossy black lacquer, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the timepiece.
The watch also displays a balance frequency of 2.5Hz (18,000 vph) and contains 41 jewels. Functions include hours, minutes, day, date, month, retrograde leap year, and power reserve indicators, making it a highly complex and sophisticated timepiece.
The LM Perpetual Longhorn's case is crafted from stainless steel, measuring 44 mm in diameter and 17.5 mm in thickness. It is composed of 69 individual components and offers a water resistance of 30 metres (90 feet/3 ATM), ensuring durability without compromising on style. The timepiece is protected by sapphire crystals on both the top and display back, treated with anti-reflective coatings on both faces to ensure optimal readability.
The strap is made of calf leather, providing a luxurious feel, and the stainless steel folding buckle adds both comfort and security, completing the design of this stunning anniversary timepiece.
Legacy Machine Sequential Flyback Longhorn
The second timepiece in the anniversary series, LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn, continues MB&F's chronograph legacy. This piece is based on LM Sequential EVO from 2022, the brand’s first chronograph, which featured the innovative Twinverter binary switch to toggle between different timing modes. The Flyback version adds a further dimension by incorporating the flyback function, typically used in aviation, which allows for instant resetting and restarting of the chronograph without stopping the timing.
The chronograph system is fully integrated with a dual chronograph flyback, developed for MB&F by Stephen McDonnell, and includes a left and right chronograph with separate start/stop pushers and reset/flyback pushers, offering precise and versatile timekeeping.
This limited edition, like its counterpart, features the striking Longhorn design, with black lacquered inclined dials and black subdials that enhance its bold aesthetic. The watch is powered by a manual winding movement with double mainspring barrels, a flying balance wheel with regulating screws at 12 o'clock, and a Breguet overcoil.
The movement, which boasts a power reserve of 72 hours and a balance frequency of 3Hz (21,600 vph), contains 619 components and 63 jewels, all meticulously hand-finished to the highest standards. The internal bevel angles, polished bevels, Geneva waves, and hand-made engravings reflect the exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail that define MB&F’s work.
The LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn watch features a 44 mm stainless steel case, measuring 18.2 mm in thickness, with 88 individual components. It also offers a water resistance of 30 metres (90 feet/3 ATM). The timepiece is protected by sapphire crystals on both the top and display back, treated with anti-reflective coatings on both faces to ensure clear visibility. The calf leather strap is paired with a stainless steel folding buckle, completing this extraordinary chronograph and serving as a perfect tribute to MB&F’s technical prowess.
The LM Perpetual Longhorn and LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn timepieces mark just the beginning of MB&F's 20th-anniversary celebrations. With more exciting releases, collaborations, and surprises lined up throughout the year, fans and collectors can look forward to witnessing MB&F’s continued innovation and artistry.
